This is the second time I am trying to post this, I don't think it worked the first time, but basically I am new to using shape 5 templates, and fairly new to Joomla. I have been using Joomla for a few months, so I am a little consfused as to whether I should be doing an SQL dump for the city portal template of the Site shaper. I read the tutorial on the demo site, but I am still not sure which one to go with, not even exactly sure what an sql dump is. I am trying to make a real estate site for my husband, and I liked the exact layout of the city portal demo site. The only things I need to change owuld be some of the colors and to move the search box over so I can put a logo and a picture. If I use the site shaper, can I still customize these things. Please help.

Also, if I do the site shaper, will this delete my website content and the other extensions I already have installed?

Hello,

According to your first post it sounds like you should use the site shaper but if you dont' want to lose any content or extensions you have installed then neither the site shaper or the sql dump would be an option for you as both of these options get your site looking like the demo but then you will only have the content from the demo.  There isn't a way to mesh you current content with our demo content.

So the site shaper itself is a Joomla install with all the modules of the demo, images, content etc.  You would install it just like you would a brand new joomla install from joomla.org.

The SQL dump is simply the content of the demo.  So you would need to install the template and all modules we use on the demo and then use the SQL dump.  This would then get your site setup like our demo minus the images.

Hope this helps, let me know if you still are confused.

Regards,

Thanks for your help. Is it necessary to do the SQL dump, or could I get it to look similar to the demo by installing of the modules manually. I also like all of the icons on the buttons. I think alot of them would work for what I am trying to do, such as the finance icon. Can I have these without the SQL dump? I know I have a lot of questions right now, but I will eventually catch on and will hopefully not be so lost.

Thanks,
Kira

Hi,
The answer to your icon question is in this thread: http://www.shape5.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,75/topic,4042.0/

They have a bunch of free icons there.

I find when working on various templates it helps if you setup a not for public site to experiment with using the site shaper or sql dumps or building a bare template using a site shaper as an example.

I am just another newish joomla/shape5 user and slowly building my sites.  Wink
