Hi everyone.

I am working on a new site using CONTEN TKING and already have a problem.

The item on the front page (with OBAMA) does not link through, it just reloads the front page again.

Any ideas where i can look for possible errors or things that i need to set to ''ON'' - such a newbie!!!

The site is at:  www.idxa.co.uk/thesilver.network

Thanks for any help or suggestions

Best regards

Stephen

Hey Stephen,

So whats happening is the following.

1. First off under the Vertex admin area under "main > layout" we have the content disabled for the homepage. So if you enable it you would see the article show but it would show on the homepage with all the other modules, etc. Which I'm sure you don't want.

2. Joomla functions in a such a way that an article will just show on the homepage when the "read more" is clicked unless its assigned to a menu item or inside a category that is assigned to a menu item. So what we usually do is create a category and put all the articles in there (you can have sub categories too). This main category would be linked to a menu item.

Hi Jonah

Thanks. i still don't quite understand how to get a clickable link from ''obama'' to the actual article though.

I love this template and don't want to alter the layout too much and the ''obama'' item on the front page is important to me to have a click through.

How can i do that?

Thanks

I'm not seeing anything with Obama on your site?  I see an article "Streaming Media Boxes reviewed" where we had the Obama image on our demo. But its clickable with read more and the title. Can you please explain a bit more as I'm not understanding? Thanks

Hi
The "Obama" item was edited at Streaming Media but still wouldn't click through. I realised after a lot of comparing with the others that DO click through that this  One did not have any menu item connected to it.
I created the menu item and hey presto it works fine so I've learnt something new.
My next question therefore is how can I get to swap that location with another article so I can have them changing places using something like a component rotator if such a thing exists ?

So you want the articles to rotate in like an image fader type thing?  So the "Streaming Media" shows for a few seconds then changes to another article?

Ok the only way to really do it and keep the exact look of the News Display module would be to use the Image Slide module.

- You would publish the Image Slide module to the position where "Streaming Media" is currently.
- Next you would set the image slide module to "module" mode
- You would then publish the "Streaming Media" module to "imageslide_1" position.
- Then so on and so forth. "imageslide_2" for another news display module, etc

You would then have the newsdisplay module rotating via the image slide module.

Hi Jonah

Thanks for the reply but my limited knowledge means that I cannot follow this even though it seems to be exactly what I need!
Can you explain a little more?
Do I make a copy of the image slider module to start with?
Do I make modules for the articles I want to rotate in the position of the "media steaming " article?
What is that position called?

Thanks

No there would just be one image slide for that position. The copies of modules you would need to make are to the news display module. Each slide would need a copy.

You would use the news display module multiple times published to however many slides you want.

I'm not sure what you mean by this? Do you mean the the "media steaming " position? If so its the "top_row1_2" position

No worries we'll get there Smiley

So first off, did you grab the image slide module here, the first file labeled "S5 Image Slide v2 - Current" ?

http://www.shape5.com/component/option,com_docman/Itemid,96/task,cat_view/gid,97/

Once this is installed this module is the one where you choose image or module mode.

Please see the following page, it lists all the module positions for the image slide module:

Hi Jonahh

Thanks so much for the support I now have the effect I want (more or less). !!!

I have the ''streaming'' item rotating with a ''yoga'' item (no content yet) but just wanted to get it to work. This is how I learn.

The appearance is not like ''Obama'' though.

The two modules I made (Streaming and Yoga) are modules using CUSTOM, is this correct?

How can I get the clickable text over the top of the image, the short line (_______________)and the Intro Text like Obama and the other items in this area of the page?

There is also a small gap at the top and the bottom - how would I resolve that to get rid of it?

Thanks again !!
