Hi Mike, I was doing some SEO work on, I renamed htacess.txt > .htaccess, then enabled URL Rewriting. It did get rid of index.php, however it now showing the following: never had this happen before...should not be showing home/root

I've attached htaccess.txt (.htaccess on the server)

That is an odd one. I would first try rebuilding the menu items by recreating them to generate new ID#s and alias'. From there I would take a look at this thread and see if any of the posted solutions help out.
