Using Corporate Response template.
Noticed the current version supports both 2.5 and 3.x (is that right?). So can I install the current version on the 2.5 site, and then just upgrade Joomla to 3.x? If not, what should the procedure be?  I tried Brian Teerman's step by step, but ran into issues, and when done, neither the back nor front-end were accessible.
Any help?
Thanks,

Hello,

It supports 2.5 and 3.X but they are completely different installs. No 2.5 products work in 3.X. If you have an existing 2.5 site you would first upgrade Joomla, and then update the template and all extensions to 3.X compatible versions; this usually means completely reinstalling those items.

Appreciate the response; your answer is what I thought.
I don't know if you address this, but I did what you said, and got a download error with the update to 3.x, but was able to download it manually.  Then unzipped it locally, and ftp'd it up, and changed permissions.  But somehow that broke access--front and back end.
I reverted a backup to get back where I was (this is not a live site).  Any ideas/suggestions?

Hello,

The best way to update Joomla is through the Joomla Update component in the backend of Joomla. If that's not working, I would suggest posting on joomla.org's forum boards as this is directly related to the CMS itself. There may be other similar posts there as well.
