How do I stop people from registering an account through my website? Some have even been able to activate an account on my website. There must be some type of security issue with the Risen Hope template. The Login and Register modules were disabled, and there is no place on the website to setup an account. Please advise.

Hello,

A template doesn't control registrations on the site, that is entirely handled through Joomla. You can disable user registration under the Users component in the backend of Joomla; once you're on the Users page click on the Options button to configure that component.

Hi MikeK,

I get over 100 new users registered each week from people using fake Russian email accounts. I have to delete them every time from the "Users" "Management" section of Joomla. I don't know where to disable users under the "Components" tab in Joomla backend.

It gets old having to have to go in every day to delete hundreds of new users. How are they able to register a user account to the website and then activate it? I don't have any mechanism in place via the website to allow this type of access. Is there a way to stop this type of unwanted activity?

Best regards,

Hello,

As I stated above you can disable the registration in the backend of Joomla. Joomla is the only thing that controls this. Most likely it's a bot of some sort that is programmed to look for the Joomla registration urls and register. You most likely have your settings to set to automatically approve accounts, again you can change those options too in the component's configuration.

Hi MikeK,

Where do I find the settings to set to automatic approval or disapproval of  accounts? I checked everything under the Joomla Components tab, but found nothing that you described. Thanks bro. God bless you.

Hello,

It's in the location that I mentioned above, go to Users>Manage, once you're on that page click on the Options button in the upper right hand corner. On that page you can then set the "New User Account Activation" setting to Administrator.
