Hi there,

I have upgraded from Vertex 3.5 to 4 using your patch, and the following problem occurs on some pages on my website: the menu just disappears! The site is www.neutratest.com: try to check out the url www.neutratest.com/da/testprotokol/forsta-eu-scoren and you will see that the menu is gone. This happens on other pages as well but not all.

Would you have an idea as to how I can get my menu back on all pages? Looking forward to your reply.

Kind regards
Anne

Do you have multiple template styles setup on your site?

I do have more than 1 version of design control installed, but it does not explain the problem as the pages concerned (for exemple the "about us" page) are based on the main template. Or what are your thoughts on the matter?

Best regards

Hello,

I don't know what you mean that you have multiple versions installed, there is only one version of the template. I am asking if you have multiple styles setup on the site and enabled on different pages. There is a setting to hide the menu in the template configuration, and if you have multiple styles setup one of those styles could have the menu disabled in the configuration.

Hi again,

Okay, I have one default template for all pages, and one for a few landing pages - I called them template versions but I understand now that the correct word is styles.

The pages where the menu has suddenly disappeared are not connected to a template style with hidden menu but to the default template - as are the other pages where the menu is still visible.

Which other reason could there be for the menu to suddenly disappear for some pages?

Best regards

Hello,

Every page is connected to a style. If you can private message me super admin access and ftp access I can take a look at your setup.

Hello,

You had the menu turned off on the first style listed in the styles manager. I turned it on and the menu now shows.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for looking into it, however it does not solve my problem ...

The style where you have now turned on the menu has 12 pages assigned to it, and those 12 pages are landing pages where the menu is not supposed to show. The default style has the rest of the website pages assigned to it, nothing has changed, before the menu showed fine on all pages, but now after the Vertex4 patch on some of those pages the menu has suddenly disappeared. I have checked: the pages in question are not suddenly assigned to the landing page template style, so why should this suddenly influence those pages? And how do I get back to the way it was before when the template style created for the landing pages only apply to the landing pages?

Best regards,
Annepal

Hello,

I don't know what you are referring to. This is the url you gave me and said that the menu was not showing but it should be:

https://www.neutratest.com/da/testprotokol/forsta-eu-scoren

As soon as I changed the setting I mentioned above the menu came back. I see now that you have turned it back off and that is why the menu is not showing. I do not know why your assignments are not working correctly, but that would be an issue with your Joomla installation and not the template. The template finds assignments based on page ID and the url of the page above is triggering as one of those 12 assignments. So there is something wrong with your Joomla installation if that page is triggering as a landing page, and it is because the assignment I mentioned above is triggering as one of those pages.

Hi again Mike,

As a test, I have turned it on and off in the template style made for the 12 landing pages - and you are right, it affects other pages, for exemple the 'about us'-page or the forsta-eu-scoren (and several others), which it should not. When you look at the menu for these pages, it is the default style of the template that is set, not the landing page style template. And there was no problem before the update to Vertex 4, all menus showed fine, this problem occurred as a result of the patch. I really don't know what to do ...

Best regards
Annepal

Hello,

Yes, that is what I stated above, those pages are triggering with the wrong page ID's. Styles work entirely off page ID's and if your Joomla installation is outputting the wrong ID that is an issue with your Joomla setup or menu configuration. The style is identifying that as a page that applies to that style, that is not a template related issue. Please post a url to one of your landing pages, perhaps there is a way we set the menu on all pages and simply hide it with css or javascript on those pages.

Hello,

Since you are using an article on these pages what I would recommend doing is turning the menu back on for all styles, including the landing pages and then in the article html add the following. Turn the editor completely off when doing this so it doesn't change the code:

#s5_menu_wrap {
display:none !important;
}

That way the menu is technically called on all pages but it won't show due to the css above on the pages where you put this code in the articles.

OK, thanks, here comes my hopefully last question:

When I insert the html code in the article (using toggle mode in the jce editor), the code appears in text when I exit toggle mode ... What is missing so that it will be clear that this is html code that should not appear as text?

Best regards and thanks for your help,
Annepal

Hello,

As I stated above, you need to turn the editor off. Toggling it is just temporarily turning it off. You can turn it off in the global configuration of Joomla and then back on again when you are done making the updates.
