We have a website that has been running for quite sometime using the EZwebhosting theme.  We recently have been wanting to work on improving the sitespeed.  However, we are running into issues with the template.

Here are the three optimizations we have tried, all with similar results:
  • Enabling Javascript Compression via Vertex - this definitely speeds up the website, but the dropdown menus disappear and are not accessible, which presents a problem naturally
  • Enabling CSS Compression via Vertex - this again speeds up the website but breaks the website formatting completely, from the menu, to backgrounds and divisions of content.  This is not usable either
  • Using JCH Optimize - testing various settings of JCH optimize all yield the same result as the above issues built in with the template

If you have any past knowledge of this issue, please share it with me, and I would greatly appreciate it. Alternatively, if it's new, I would be happy to provide private credentials and URL to the website if desired.

Thank you for your help!

Hello,

Can you please install the latest Vertex patch here?

The CSS and JS should work without breaking the site as you describe. I'm wondering if a fresh patch of Vertex would fix it for you.

We are already running the latest version of Vertex 4.0.  That was one of the first things we did to troubleshoot.  Has there been changes to the install package that we should consider re-patching it?

No these changes would occur on the framework level. Can you PM me FTP and Joomla login details so I can take a look at it for you?

For the sake of others looking, the issue was unrelated to the Vertext framework.  It was actually a permissions issue on the server which wasn't allowing the compressed/cached file to properly read/write.  So if you face a similar issue check your server permissions, file permissions, htaccess restrictions etc.
