If you turn of "ALL" modules there appears to be a white module under the main menu section that I just can NOT get rid of? This is where the 3 main articles reside inside this block or "Module" The article contain in this module are

If you remove the article from here this white module is still visible even if all Modules are turned off!

How can I get rid of it?

You to select the page on the General tab where you want the component area to be hidden. Any page selected in the list will hide this area.
