how can I get the white back ground that runs behind positions 14, 15, 16 and 17 set to transparent?

Hello, the background is created on line 926 of template_css.css:

#s5_row1 {

Under that just remove the background line.  That will make it completely transparent, if you need semi-transparent that would require a lot of custom programming.
